note: the boys are just twenty in this, and it's their first christmas since grandma ida went to live at the old folks' home.

Harley is sitting on the ground by the door to the stable, his back to the wall, writing to his dad. His knees are pulled up, a spiral notebook propped against his legs. A shadow falls across him and he looks up.

( You're Harley, right? a girl asks. )

note: i wrote this in my head last week when it was BLOODY FUCKING HOT in greater boston. (i didn't actually put it down on paper, so to speak, until yesterday.) and when it's that hot out, i think about being so cold you can see your breath. :D

( The snow is a foot deep in the front yard and Harley's room is so cold he thinks he should be able to see his breath )
